HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The department records show evidence of existence of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health as early as 1998 and the first Head of Department was Dr. T.O. Fadahunsi. Then, Dr. Elemile was a full time lecturer, and Professor Familusi and Prof. Ebun Adejuyigbe were visiting Lecturers/Consultants. Other former Heads of department were Dr. Fadero FF, Dr. Elemile P.O, Dr. Joel-Medewase V.I, Prof. Oyedeji G.A, Prof. Adebami O.J, Dr. Onigbinde M.O, Prof. Oyedeji O.A, and Dr. Oninla S.O. Since inception, the location of the Department had changed from Ajegunle Area to Isale-Osun both in Osogbo, Osun State and now located along Ogbomoso-Ilorin road in Ogbomoso Oyo State.
Department of Paediatrics and Child Health in the College of Health Sciences of LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, has gradually grown from having four members of staff to present size of six full time lecturers, despite the movement of some staffers to Osun State University Osogbo due to ownership separation between Oyo and Osun States in November 2020. Also, some academic staff (Prof. Oyedeji G.A, Drs. Elemile P.O and Fadero P.P) had left the institution because of retirement. Prof. Oyedeji O.A left to take up appointment with Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, Osun State. The Department has produced 16 sets of doctors and is currently on the verge of developing a postgraduate programme. Out of the lecturers in the Department who were first appointed as lecturer I, two are currently Professors, one Associate Professor, and one Senior Lecturer.
The Academic staff of the department had contributed more than 150 publications to both local and international journals and published some books or contributed chapters to published books, to their credit.
